Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Thimphu Sightseeing (50 km, 1.5–2 hrs) (D)

  • Arrive at Paro International Airport. Meet and greet.
  • Transfer to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city, nestled in a scenic valley.
  • Begin sightseeing in Thimphu:
  • Visit Tashichho Dzong, the impressive fortress-monastery and government palace.
  • Explore Memorial Chorten, a revered stupa built in honor of the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, where locals pray daily.
  • Head to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang) for panoramic valley views.
  • Stroll through Coronation Park
  • Visit Takin Zoo, home to Bhutan’s unique national animal.
  • Check in to your hotel. Overnight in Thimphu.

 

Day 2: Thimphu – Punakha (75 km, 3 hrs) (B, D)

  • After breakfast, depart for Punakha.
  • En route:
    • Stop at Semtokha Dzong, the country’s oldest fortress (built in 1629).
    • Pause at Dochula Pass (3,100m), with its 108 memorial chortens and, on clear days, spectacular Himalayan views.
  • Descend into the Punakha valley:
    • Visit Chhimi Lhakhang, the famous “Fertility Temple.”
    • Explore Punakha Dzong, renowned for its beauty and historic significance.
    • Walk across the Punakha Suspension Bridge, the longest in Bhutan.
  • Dinner and overnight in Punakha.

 

Day 3: Punakha – Paro Sightseeing (125 km, 4–5 hrs) (B, D)

  • After breakfast, return to Paro.
  • Sightseeing in Paro:
    • Visit the National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong), housing a rich collection of art and artifacts.
    • Explore Rinpung Dzong, a historic monastery and seat of government.
    • Cross the Nya Mey Zam Bridge (“the bridge with no fish”).
    • If time permits, visit Kichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples (7th century).
  • Dinner and overnight in Paro.

 

Day 4: Paro – Departure (B)

  • After breakfast, check out and transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward journey, departing Bhutan with wonderful memories of the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
