Sri Lanka in June: 8-Day Family Itinerary
Looking for a holiday trip the whole family will remember? Sri Lanka packs ancient rock fortresses, wild elephants, golden beaches, misty tea plantations and one of the world's most scenic train rides into one small island. Most places are only a few hours' drive apart, so kids stay happy and nobody gets travel-weary.
This 8-day family itinerary is designed for the June holidays. It follows the island's sunny side, avoids long days on the road, and mixes adventure with plenty of pool and beach time.

Why June is a great time for a family trip to Sri Lanka
In June, the southwest monsoon brings showers to Colombo and the south coast. The rest of the island, though, is warm and mostly dry. The smart move is to follow the sunshine:
The Cultural Triangle (Sigiriya, Dambulla) is dry and great for exploring.
The east coast around Trincomalee has its best beach weather, with calm, clear seas.
The hill country is cool and green. Expect some mist and the odd shower, which makes the tea estates look even more magical.
June is also outside Sri Lanka's peak season, so families enjoy better hotel rates and fewer crowds at the big sights.

Family travel tips for Sri Lanka in June
Travel with a private driver. A private air-conditioned car or van lets you stop whenever the kids need a break, and your driver handles all the luggage.
Book train seats early. Reserved seats on the hill-country train sell out, especially during school holidays.
Start sightseeing early. Climb Sigiriya and visit temples in the morning, then keep afternoons free for the pool or beach.
Dress for temples. Cover your shoulders and knees, and remove shoes and hats at temples. A light sarong or scarf is handy.
Stay hydrated. Drink bottled water and try fresh king coconut, a kid-friendly local favorite.
Get your ETA before you fly. Every traveler, including children, needs their own Sri Lanka ETA.
